Golf tournament to affect North Unit access June 1–7

For a second year, the American Family Insurance Championship will take place at the TPC Wisconsin golf course (formerly Cherokee Country Club). The tournament and related activities will take place June 1–7.

While the Cherokee Marsh–North Unit will remain open to visitors, vehicle access on North Sherman Avenue will be allowed only from 7 pm until the park closes, one hour after sunset. An exception is vehicles with disabled tags or plates, which will be allowed access from North Sherman to the park’s upper parking area. Bicycle and pedestrian access won’t be restricted.

Vehicle access and parking will be allowed via Comanche Way for those visiting Cherokee Park (neighborhood park) or entering the Cherokee Marsh–North Unit from the walk-in trail at the north end of Burning Wood Way. Inform the police officer at the corner of Wheeler Road and Comanche that you are visiting the park(s).

Because the event is restricting access to the North Unit, the June 7 Bird and Nature Adventure will be a paddle tour leaving from the Cherokee Marsh–South Unit boat launch. (See our website's home page for updates and details on the paddle tour.) The tournament week is also a good time to explore the trails at Cherokee Marsh Conservation Park’s South and Mendota Units or, on the west side of the river, Yahara Heights County Park, Cherokee Marsh Natural Resource Area, or Westport Prairie. See Visit the Marsh on our website for information and ideas.

The tournament raises money for the American Family Children's Hospital and local nonprofits. The Friends of Cherokee Marsh received a grant in 2025 that will help pay for interpretive signs to be installed later this year in the Cherokee Marsh–North Unit. For those attending the tournament, the code “northside26” will give a 25% discount on tickets.
