80 volunteers from the JP Cullen construction company, supervised by Madison Parks staff and the Friends of Cherokee Marsh conservation volunteer crew, came in September 2026 to the Cherokee Marsh North Unit to dig up invasive burdock plants, pull invasive species in the prairies, bundle invasive phragmites grass for later cutting, and deconstruct the decaying wooden structure overlooking the river. (After a rainy morning, it was too damp for seed collecting.) They also enjoyed their encounters with toads, a snake, grasshoppers, and other wildlife.
