About the event

In Wisconsin, redheaded woodpeckers are an uncommon, high-priority species of conservation concern that breed in open deciduous woodlands, oak savannas, and dead snags throughout the southern and western parts of the state. Madison Parks staff have successfully managed the Cherokee Marsh conservation parks to encourage redheaded woodpeckers to nest and breed here. Join us for an early morning walk to look for these special birds, and lots of other birds, too.

Free; no registration required. Be prepared for summer weather in a woods: closed-toed shoes, bug spray, etc.

Follow N Sherman Ave north to the parking lot at the end of the gravel road.

WALK LEADER: Timothy Baker, Friends of Cherokee Marsh
